Daigh

From WFU Wiki

Daigh is a small settlement in the north of Pyra, though it is the largest town in that province of the Thyrosic Empire. Daigh was founded in Lords 30, but because of the high rate of turnover in Pyra, it also remains the oldest surviving settlement in that region. Much of the commerce and trade of Pyra passes through Daigh on its way south, and Daigh is the only source of non-local goods in the region.

Landscape

Daigh is built on both sides of theHýn River , and is covered on either side by small areas of farmland, primarily to grow crops, though the odd cow or sheep can be found. To the north sits a vast and treacherous ice valley, and to the east and west are large expanses of open tundra, and to the south the river Hýn supports the largest collection of men in Pyra, with up to 70% of its population living on its shores.

Layout

The majority of buildings in Daigh are wooden, to conserve heat better.  In contrast to the more common Thyridic design, Daigh is a mismatch of various buildings. Most buildings are built partially underground, as an easier way to lock in heat. On the eastern side of the river, to the north, lies what would be described as the shopping district of the town, though most shops look the same as the houses around them. Further south lays more houses and several government buildings. Deeper into the eastern side becomes a snow-packed maze of buildings, and it is in an unassuming courtyard here that a supposed black market trade operates. On the outskirts of the eastern side lay the farms and shacks of the poorest of Daigh's citizens.

On the western side of the river the docks are situated, and though the rest of the town is low-key, the docks are a grand affair constructed under the reign of Emperor Daidh, designed to prevent the river freezing over and trapping the cargo vessals. The docks are like a mini-city of their own, filled with taverns and shops of ill-repute. Also on the western side of the Hýn is Fort Daigh, the town's only defence against monsters, both sapient and animal.
