Nún

History

The Nún has historically been the most powerful and wealthy region of the Dún. There is a saying among the Dunaan that all roads go through Nún, and this is not entirely inaccurate. The Dunaan first settled in this area sometime in the late Dawn Era, and have spread out from the Nún since then.

The Nún would be one of the first provinces invaded by the Lyrian Empire, and indeed first to fall to the invading Lyrian forces during the Growth Era. During this time, the region was awash with conflicts, and uprisings against the Lyrian's were common. Documents pertaining from the time suggest there was widespread pagan beliefs through the area, and many Dunaan believed the Lyrian's were akin to demons. Such beliefs eventually died out, but the hatred of the Lyrian's did not. Ethnic cleansing of local beliefs was common, and countless dead led to the Dunaan forgetting most aspects of their cultural, apart from the hatred of Lyrians.

The Nún, along with the Jún, were the major Dunaan rebelling forces against the Lyrians during the Autumn Era. Through a long and bloody rebellion, the regions were eventually freed from their shackles. An attempt at unification of the Nún and Jún, who would have been the same area before the occupation, was made, but the Junnín were extremely adverse to this move, which failed almost as quickly as it had begun.

In subsequent bloody years, the Nún would establish itself once again as the dominant force in the region, but failed at any attempts of unifying the region. They eventually agreed to the system of independent regions set forward by Ronár Ronnan, and since have produced many High Kings of Dún

Landscape

The Nún is one of the less mountainous regions of the Dún, mostly compromising of fertile river valleys, or lowland areas. Historically there was a dense forest covering the area, but most of that has been cleared away to make way for settlements, farmland and roads. There are still dense forests on the borders of the Rín, where the land slopes upwards to become craggy and mountaineous. The few forests that remain are inhabited by mostly elk, though wolves are not uncommon, and bears have been known to roam the area if the salmon spawns are poor.
