Norvakia

From WFU Wiki

Norvakia is a continent located in the north-east of Kyros. It is a frozen, harsh land and is sparsely populated. Other than the many colonies that were established there following it's discovery by the Dunaan explorer Cunál Rónnan in the early Enlightened Era, It is inhabited by bestial natives, who live in the north of the island, eking out a life in the frozen wastes.

Landscape

Norvakia is the smallest of the three traditionally accepted continents of Kyros. Owing to it's position, Norvakia is dominated by vast ice sheets and large pine forests. Excluding the coast and small areas further inland, it is deemed uninhabitable to the races of Atheryin, the majority of whom would experience severe frostbite in its interior. From what little is known of the interior of Norvakia, it is believed to be a series of icy valleys, leading to what the native Norvakians seemingly refer to as The White Dread, a vast Cryovolcano, located in the middle of the continent. As it is so far north, it is, excluding a few pockets of forest and grassland located on the southern coast, dominated by ice and snow. In the north, it is particularly treacherous. The landscape is composed of glaciers and a large ice sheet that stretches into the sea.

Civilisation

Norvakia's population is small, numbering in the hundreds of thousands. Most of the population is located in the southern regions, the only area capable of supporting large amounts of life. Generally, a Norvakian town is small and wooden, with the living areas located in the basement. The heating is provided by a large fire located upstairs, with the roof designed to make the heat filter down to the basement. The other settlements are native, small camps high in the mountains. Those who have been there describe them as being a single large building, divided up into sections. The cattle area is underground, for most animals in Norvakia hibernate through the year.

Flora and Fauna

The wildlife of Norvakia is hardy and rugged, from the simple yak, to the natives, all know how to live in this land. Of great note are the six beasts arranged in a circle around the Cryovolcano.None are active, but some seem to have thawed recently. In the legends of Norvakia, it is said that if they awaken, they will cover the entire world in ice, and bring about the end times.
