Boosters
There are a variety of enhancements that can be obtained with an upgrader. These could include stats, as well as additional bonuses. This bonus will be randomly selected from the following options: an opportunity to acquire a weapon with an increased damage range, a chance to obtain an increased reload speed or a chance to acquire an increased defense roll.
The number of upgrades you do will determine the amount of extras you receive. Each upgrade boosts the corresponding extras by a factor of one up to a maximum value of 3. Additionally, each upgrade will also boost the main stat by one.
Some upgrades also provide a secondary random boost in addition to stat enhancements. These boosts can be important and should be considered when deciding on which items to upgrade. Some of these boosts can only be used in certain builds (such the Whistan's Shield in FB Sorcs) While others are useful to collectors.
Some items have an inherent boos that are less beneficial when upgraded, for example the Goldwrap which gives extra potion slots. These are usually upgraded to increase the value of the perfect or nearly perfect item.
Costs

It is also possible to add a range of additional elements to the upgrade, thereby increasing its chances of success. These are displayed in a separate window, above the + button. However, there are limitations to this, and the maximum amount of material that can be added is displayed directly above the + button in the user interface.
Another way to increase the chance of a successful upgrade is to use an item called a Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it. This item can be helpful when your piece of equipment or weapon is nearing or has reached the maximum level of its tier. This item lets you upgrade the equipment to the next level without risking its breaking.
If an upgrade is unsuccessful, it will be reverted to its initial state. This is typically a downgrade, but could also be an upgrade. It is a good idea to save an upgrade for when you're near the maximum level of an item, and use it as an option last resort.
