Kados (Teoja: Kadtamo, roughly "first empire") is a Kutai tribal empire located in the northeastern Kira Jungle. It was the first Kutai state to form out of the unification of several disorganized tribes of the northern Kira River region. Throughout history, Kados has been one of the most powerful states in the region, occupying much of the Kira river's length and tributaries before its delta in The Fen.
Kados was founded in Jeo Kaan in the late Dawn Era, during a meeting between elders of the Nakuteo, Kirakaeno, and Kaankaeno tribes. They formed a unified council, consisting of all village elders from each tribe, handling governance and internal conflicts, called the Kaeno Elders. This effectively formed the national identity of Kaeno Kutai, separating themselves from the coastal Kutai of the west and south. State decisions are left to a single Akya, equivalent to an emperor, similar to the Lyrian Akko or Nokanian Tama. This form of governance became a model for many neighboring Kutai states.
Many religious sites, structures, and monasteries of Laskuism are centered in Kados, making the state a powerful theological influence in Kutai culture.
