Kam'ak'tuun

Kam'ak'tuun (Yaka: Kaama'yaka Tuun, lit. "soul-eating cat") are a species of demonic felines living in the Kira Jungle. It is generally believed that the Kam'ak'tuun are some of the last remaining Harbingers, corrupted by the Faelands' fallout flowing down through the Kira River. The large, black cats are known for swooping down from tree canopies and stealing the souls of their victims with their mere gaze.
Physiology & Behavior
Kam'ak'tuun are large, as much as six feet long, with jet black fur. Their eyes are a bright, luminescent gold, which can be spotted glowing at night. They are likely some degree of conscious or intelligent, but lack a willingness to communicate entirely—it is not even known if Kam'ak'tuun are capable of vocalizing. They do not communicate with one another, and they do not even make a sound when in pain.
Cultural Significance
The Kutai fear the Kam'ak'tuun, but will take the opportunity to kill one if it is presented. They give sacrificial offerings to the Kam'ak'tuun as part of Laskuist ritual, which tends to appease the felines when done regularly. The Kam'ak'tuun don't often hunt Kutai because of this.
Yakira, on the other hand, refuse to appease the Kam'ak'tuun, believing them to be demons that cannot be bargained with. The Yakira are, therefore, often hunted by the Kam'ak'tuun, sometimes seemingly for sport or revenge. Kam'ak'tuun frequently target Yakira children, and they remain a "boogeyman" in Yakira culture.
